Tanto Suishinshi: The Legacy of a Master Swordsmith

The Tanto Suishinshi is more than just a replica; it is an immersion in the history and excellence of Japanese craftsmanship. Inspired by the work of Suishinshi Masahide, one of the three greatest swordsmiths of the Edo period (1603-1868), this tanto represents the renaissance of the Shin-Shinto tradition.

Suishinshi Masahide made his mark on history by reintroducing ancient techniques from the Kamakura and Muromachi periods, at a time when swords were losing their primary function and becoming ornamental. By forging blades from exceptionally hard steel, he restored the katana’s original purpose as a deadly weapon, both functional and aesthetic. This sharp tanto honors that legacy with remarkable fidelity.

Technical Features: A Perfect Balance of Tradition and Functionality
Blade Type: Hand-forged Maru, sharp-edged.
Steel: 1050 Steel (0.50% carbon), offering the perfect balance of hardness and flexibility.
Same (Handle): Genuine rayskin, symbolizing elegance and strength.
Ito: White cotton, providing a firm and comfortable grip.
Sageo: Black cord, matching the simple yet refined design.
Tsuka: Securely locked by two Mekugi, ensuring maximum stability.
Saya (Sheath): Black lacquered wood with flawless finishing.
Tsuba: Round steel guard, 6 cm, combining protection with finesse.
Blade with BO-HI: A groove in the blade reduces weight and ensures perfect balance.
Blade Length: 32.5 cm
Weight: 495g
Total Length: 52 cm (with Saya)
Versatility and Options
This tanto is perfectly suited for cutting practice (Battodo or Tameshigiri) on traditional targets. It is designed for martial arts enthusiasts who seek a sword that combines both aesthetic beauty and functional performance.
