Magnificent Murasame tanto in 1095 folded steel, hand forged with real hamon.
Sugata (Blade Style):
Hand forged, curved blade with Bohi (gutter) and Chu-Kissaki (tip). Folded steel 1095. Folded 13 times to reach approx. 8192 sheets, hardened differently by selective quenching.
After forging, the blade is partially covered with a special clay, and then it is quenched.
The cooling is more or less strong depending on the clay that covers a large part of the blade.
The back remains relatively flexible while the edge becomes very hard.
It is the crystallization of the steel between the part covered with clay and that which is not that will form the hamon.
This is revealed by polishing. There is a beautiful Hada (grain on steel, result of bent steel) on the blade. The hardness of Mune is around 43 HRC and Ha (blade edge) is around 60 HRC Rockwell. The back of the blade is iori-mune, the edge is without Niku. (Very sharp blade).
