Protective wax
Reference :
ACIRWAX
A credible alternative to maintenance oils for sword blades, swords, knives on display and conservation.
At Murasame, we want to offer you the very best for preserving your swords.
Renaissance wax is the benchmark product for protecting and enhancing your swords and precious metal objects.
Developed in the 1950s by the British Museum, it has become a must-have for collectors, museums and restorers the world over.
Why use Renaissance wax?
With its high-performance micro-crystalline formula, this wax offers advantages that few other products can match:
High chemical stability: Unlike other waxes, it does not yellow, even after years of exposure to air or light.
Neutrality: No acids or aggressive components that could damage your metals. It's a safe option for steel, bronze, silver and copper.
Non-hygroscopic wax: It does not retain moisture, which is ideal for preventing corrosion.
Tailor-made protection for your swords and edged weapons
Once applied, Renaissance wax forms a transparent, almost invisible film that protects while enhancing the beauty of the metal.
Against oxidation: This microscopic barrier prevents air, moisture and pollutants from reaching the surface, limiting the risk of rust.
Fingerprint reduction: No more unsightly fingerprints! The wax reduces the areas where your fingers' natural oils adhere.
Aesthetics preserved: No risk of tarnishing the patina or original finish of your pieces. The result? A smooth, satin finish that enhances the engraved details.
For nihonto (Japanese swords), it's a real revolution. Unlike choji oil, Renaissance wax offers long-lasting protection while enhancing the beauty of the blade.
Easy to apply and maintain
Another advantage of Renaissance wax is its ease of use.
Here are our recommendations for getting the best out of it:
Prepare the surface: Make sure the metal is clean and dry. If necessary, degrease with a cloth soaked in White Spirit or paraffin.
Apply the wax: Using a soft cloth (microfibre or sponge), apply a thin layer of wax in even strokes. Leave for a few minutes, then buff lightly to a shine.
For extra protection: Apply two or three more coats, leaving about 30 minutes between each application. Shine after each coat for optimum results.
Routine maintenance: If the wax has lost some of its shine through handling, a simple dry polish is all that's needed to restore its brilliance. For more stubborn marks, a cloth lightly soaked in paraffin will do the trick.
Minimal maintenance for maximum effectiveness
Once applied, wax provides long-lasting protection. Re-care is only necessary once or twice a year, depending on exposure and frequency of use. Indoors, it provides optimum protection; outdoors, it protects against the elements.
A few practical tips
Always wear cotton gloves when handling your objects to avoid leaving acid traces on them.
If necessary, Renaissance wax can be removed with a mild solvent.
With Renaissance wax, you give your objects top-of-the-range protection while enhancing their natural beauty. For us, it's much more than a wax: it's a way of preserving history and enhancing every detail of your pieces. Do you have any questions? We're here to help!
