Important performance to restore the edge to your blades.
Black non-slip molded polymer base included.

- A coarse grain <# 400 for very dull blades.
- A median grain of # 800 or # 1000 for periodic maintenance.
- A fine grain of # 3000 to # 6000 for a second sharpening after passing over a middle stone.
- An extra fine grain of # 8000 is used for the razor-like finish and final honing.

Soak the water stone for a few minutes in water before using it so that it is filled with water. This creates a layer of water which will remove the residue from the sharpening. This allows you to sharpen quickly and increases the life of your whetstone.
