The Kissaki-moroha-zukuri or Kogarasu-maru blade style appeared during the period from the 9th century to the 11th century, it was during this time that Japan was creating its own culture.
One of the most famous moroha-zukuri blades from this period is "Kogarasu-maru". It is a treasure of the "Taira" clan, which now belongs to the imperial collection.

While the form has lost popularity with warriors, it has retained its value in the ceremonial sword with its elegant appearance.
Some samurai still adore the form and for today's Japanese sword lovers, Kogarasu-maru or Moroha-zukuri reminds us of the story of the two greatest samurai clans "Taira" and "Minamoto" who clashed for increase their power. It's a nostalgia for the glory days of the samurai.

L6 steel, hand forged, the "Taira" katana has a blade hardened differently by selective quenching, double genuine Hamon.
L6 steel is a high carbon steel structure that combines high strength with excellent flexibility and shock absorption characteristics (greater than 60 HRC). It has been known as an exemplary Katana blade component for a number of years, but its use has been limited to a few master blacksmiths, due to the difficulties of performing the demanding heat treatment procedures required to produce an L6 steel blade. In comparison compare with T10 steel which is a type of industrial tool steel, which has moderate levels of strength, toughness and is inexpensive. L6 steel is considered to be at higher levels of hardness and durability.
