The katana (刀)

A sword of Japanese origin, it is considered the finest weapon ever crafted by man. The blade is sharp or sharpened, curved, and measures over 60 cm in length.

It was worn by the Samurai with the edge facing up, tucked into the Obi (belt).

The Iaitō (居合刀)

The origin of the iaitō is fairly recent, dating back to around the 1960s.

An iaitō is a blunt training sword used for practicing martial arts such as Iaido (居合道), Aikido (合気道), or Iaijutsu (居合術). The blade can be made of aluminum, stainless steel, alloy, or carbon steel. Iaitōs are available in various blade lengths depending on the model and the practitioner’s size. To begin training, you’ll need both a bokken (for Iaido) and an iaitō to practice katas.

The Wakizashi and Tantō (短刀)

These short-bladed Japanese swords represent both martial efficiency and the symbolic richness of bushidō. Two iconic weapons stand out: the Wakizashi and the Tantō.

The Tantō, with a blade of 30 cm or less, was used by mounted samurai as a secondary weapon, ideal for targeting unarmored areas in close combat.

It also had a spiritual role: offered in traditional Japanese weddings, it symbolized purity and protection against evil forces.

The Wakizashi is an intermediate sword, measuring between 30 and 60 cm.

Worn alongside the katana, it completed the daishō, the iconic pair of samurai weapons. It’s a fearsome weapon in close quarters.

Ninja Weapons (忍者)

Ninjas are trained in ninjutsu (the art of stealth combat) and mainly engage in espionage activities. Like the Bushidō followed by samurai, ninjas also adhere to a specific code of conduct. They typically wield straight-bladed cutting weapons called "Ninjatō". In Western pop culture, a ninja is often portrayed as a martial artist using special weapons or tools such as shurikens, claws, or kunai to carry out their missions.

Budo Accessories (武道)

Budo is the practice of the samurai, now an integral part of Japanese culture, and Bushidō is the moral code of the samurai class. Budō refers to Japanese martial arts that emerged between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The most well-known Japanese disciplines are karate, judo, aikido, iaido, and kendo. In short, modern Budō does not aim for real-life combat efficiency like its ancestors, but rather focuses on self-improvement through techniques acquired in training. High-quality gear helps ensure comfortable practice sessions thanks to our carefully selected items, including bokken (wooden training swords), staffs, practice blades, protective gear, and uniforms.

It was worn by the Samurai with the edge facing up, tucked into the Obi (belt).

Blades with high carbon content undergo a selective hardening process (Hamon) and have a razor-sharp edge. The Japanese katana became the standard sword, replacing the Tachi from the 15th century onward. In Japanese, the scabbard is called a saya. The guard (often intricately designed like a piece of art) is called the tsuba. Other parts of Japanese swords include the menuki (decorative ornament), the habaki (brass collar), the fuchi and kashira (collar and pommel), which reinforce the tsuka (wooden handle).

The origin of the iaitō is fairly recent, dating back to around the 1960s.

The creation of this training sword was mainly motivated by new Japanese laws and regulations.

Since then, drawing on extensive experience in forging Nihonto (traditional Japanese swords), skilled Japanese craftsmen have developed expertise even outside of Japan.

An iaitō is a blunt training sword used for practicing martial arts such as Iaido (居合道), Aikido (合気道), or Iaijutsu (居合術).

The blade can be made of aluminum, stainless steel, alloy, or carbon steel.
